Location: It is grown mainly in India, Java and Sri Lanka.
Extraction: Steam distillation of the dried leaves.
Colour & Odour: The aromatherapy oil is pale yellow in colour having a fresh, lemony and sweet odour.
Description: A hardy grass growing to about 90cm with long slender leaves; it flowers periodically.
Background: Introduced to Europe during the nineteenth century. Known universally for its insect-repellent properties. It is used in Europe as a room freshener. Kept in linen cupboards it will keep clothes fresh and deter moths and insects. Citronella is disliked by cats and rodents.
Properties: Tonic, stimulant, antiseptic, insceticide and antidepressant.
Precaution: This oil is best used in lower concentrations as it may cause irritation in sensitive people.
Emotional: Eases feelings of depression by its clearing and uplifting effect.
