Citronella Essential Oil

The exotic rust coloured tree is a tropical evergreen with a fragrant bark and oval shaped leaves with white flowers and blue and white berries. Naturally it will grow to about 30ft but for cultivation, it is kept to about 6ft.

A slightly sweet and lemony, very top note based essential oil.

Citronella essential oil us a good all round oil, used widely in aromatherapy by both burning and skin application.

Skin

Citronella contains methyl isoeugenol that has natural antibacterial properties and thus is often used in wound care. Citronella is often used in haircare products to promote a healthy scalp.

Mind
Basil oil has a cephalic action which means that it helps to stimulate and clear the mind. It is an excellent choice for combating nervous disorders, intellectual fatigue and indecision.

Body

Citronella has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties that can be helpful for muscle pain and stiffness. It also has a tonic effect on the immune system.

Aroma

Citronella can detoxify the air around you and is commonly used in candles during summer months to repel insects.
Precautions when using Citronella Essential Oil

As with all essential oils avoid during pregnancy. You should take care when using citronella for aromatherapy inhalation, especially in closed conditions. Inhalation of pure citronella oil can use nose and throat irritation and trigger acute inflammation of the airways.
