Location: Fennel is found all over the Mediterranean region and it is cultivated in Bulgaria, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Spain and North Africa.

Extraction: Steam distillation of the seeds.

Colour & Odour: The aromatherapy oil is colourless and has a very sweet and somewhat warm, anisic aroma.

Description: A herb growing up to 1.2m with bright green, feathery leaves and golden yellow flowers. Found mainly on limestone soil, especially near the sea.

Background: Known to the early Greeks and Romans and grown in Europe as a popular vegetable often eaten with fish. Fennel is one of the main constituents of babies’ gripe water.

Properties: Carminative, diuretic, stimulant, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and tonic.
